About the Project

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) recently awarded a $631,816 grant to the School of Information to enhance the Preservation of Information Specialization by creating a variety of internship opportunities in digital preservation, administration, and curation.

The project addresses the growing need for more professionals to manage and preserve the nation's ever-increasing amounts of digital information. The grant provides support for 30 digital curation/preservation administration summer internships for master's students over three years as well as 45 term-long internships in the Ann Arbor area. Internship host sites include the Center for Research Libraries, the Florida Center for Library Automation, the LOCKSS program at Stanford University, the Northeast Document Conservation Center, OCLC, the Smithsonian Institution Archives, Safe Sound Archive, the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research, the University of Michigan Libraries, and the Internet Archive.
